Rainwater harvesting systems

Rainwater harvesting is the term used for capturing the rainwater which would normally flow off a roof and down the drain This collected water is then used to flush toilets, supply the clothes washing machine and can also be used for the garden and washing the car.  It is not suitable for baths, showers or washing dishes.

The population continues to grow and with water supplies already hard-pressed to meet demand we need to look at alternative options. Our rainwater harvesting system is a simple, cost-effective solution enabling access to a water supply that complements the mains water service and helps to reduce ecological impact of a home.

Far from having the dirty appearance one might expect, water from the sky normally only becomes spoiled when it meets the ground, so water collected through rainwater harvesting is actually clear and clean-looking.

Is my house suitable?

The majority of houses throughout the UK are suitable for rainwater harvesting. The criteria is based on factors such as the amount of available roof from which to collect rainwater, the average rainfall in your area, the number of occupants and what you want to use the water for.

We supply three packages with varying capacities:

1. •Package 1 ­ small to medium-sized properties with up to 150m2 of roof
   

2. •Package 2 ­ larger properties with up to 350m2 of roof
   

3. •Garden Package ­ for garden irrigation, car and window washing

The domestic rainwater tanks are offered with or without a pump module and integrated drinking water bypass. They stand out by way of their ultra-low-profile design and the advantages this brings for installation.

The rainwater collected on the roof runs into the downpipe, is cleaned in the integrated fine filter and then flows via the controlled infeed into the ground tank. In normal operation, a special suction module draws the rainwater from the tank and delivers it to the points of use. During dry periods, the rainwater controller switches over automatically to the mains water top-up. This package is suitable for a collection from roof areas up to 150m2.

The Domestic package 2 is especailly suitable for installation where longer distances are to be bridged between the cistern and the points of use.

In combination with the drinking water control unit, the submersible pump and its integrated suction filter module make up a complete water supply package. The pump switches on automatically as soon as water is drawn by one of the outlets or consumers. When no further water id demanded, the pump switches off again automatically. The maximum delivery head is 64m. This package is suitable for a collection from roof areas up to 350m2.

The Garden package collects rainwater for use in the garden. The storage tanks feature a dome system with a plastic cover strong enough to be walked on and with an integrated filter basket.

The filter basket must be emptied at regular intervals by the user. Rainwater is drawn from the tank by the pump, which can be installed either as a submersible pressure pump in the tank or else as an above-ground suction pump.

A garden system can be extended individually simply by linking up further storage tanks with a bottom-level connecting pipe.
